Q1: When did you start your own company, and what inspired you to do so?
I was about 24 or 25 years old when I first started out with one van...so it was a long time ago now!
I needed money *laughs* No, I was taxi-ing at the time and we would do hires for Robert Horne Paper Company to different Glasgow and Edinburgh printers. They were struggling to get same-day transport for vans, so I bought an old van and started doing spot-hire (as and when required) for them. Transport has also always been an interest of mine.
Q2: What is your day-to-day duties as the Director of the company?
Every day is different, it can get a bit hectic at times but as long as you keep on top of things it runs great. Typically, every day duties involve dealing with customer phone calls, planning routes for vehicles for the next day, making sure the maintenance side of the fleet is kept up to scratch...and sometimes driving myself!
Q3: In your experience, what is the key to developing a good team?
Trying to be fair with people, and treat them the way you want to be treated yourself is my motto.
Q4: What makes MacDonald Transport Ltd different from everyone else?
We’re a family-run business who pride themselves on the fact that we target a niche in the market that requires reliable and dedicated transport. Our drivers are all experienced and trained to a very high standard.
